For Sarah Seif, a senior majoring in integrated marketing communication and minoring in theatre and development, AUC has provided a space to combine diverse academic and extracurricular passions into one transformative education.
Reflecting on how her three academic focuses in marketing, theatre and development meld together, Seif explained, “These are the three things I’m most passionate about. For me, it’s like connecting dots; one can’t go without the other. They’re interdisciplinary in so many ways. Theatre teaches you how to speak and how to walk; marketing teaches you how to market everything and position yourself well; and development teaches you how to do all of this with purpose.”
Ten of AUC’s master’s programs have topped the 2017 Eduniversal Rankings, with four being ranked the first in Africa.
In its master’s rankings, Eduniversal ranked 4,000 of the best master’s programs in 32 fields of study worldwide. Specifically, AUC’s master’s programs in journalism and mass communication, economics in international development, public administration, and economics were all ranked first regionally in their respective categories.
“I am very excited about this year’s results of rankings for a number of graduate programs at AUC,” said Adham Ramadan, dean of graduate studies at AUC. “These rankings demonstrate not only the quality of graduate studies at AUC, but also the consistency of our graduate programs in maintaining quality. I am confident that these programs will continue in their excellence and that other graduate programs will also come to be recognized for their quality.”
Founded in 1994, Eduniversal uses three main criteria in its master’s rankings methodology: reputation of the program, salary of first employment post-graduation and a student satisfaction survey, demonstrating the wide-ranging strength of AUC’s graduate programs.
Four AUC alumni and one student represented Egypt as part of its national team in the third annual Arab Rugby 7s Championship, where they came in second out of eight competing countries.
The winning AUC team members are:
- Ahmed El Nakah ’13, petroleum engineering
- Ahmed Saafan ’11, construction engineering
- Varoujan Vartan ’13, history
- Mohamed El Etreby ’16, history
- Mahmoud Nagy, business, finance concentration
El Nakah pointed out that rugby is still in its formative stages in Egypt, and despite challenges, the team is determined to succeed. “I hope rugby gets more support and more people know about it so it can become widespread and be a part of clubs, schools and universities. We started off without a federation or uniform, and paying our own travel expenses, but this has all changed now. The best is yet to come.”
